The NRHA Sire & Dam Program began in 1966 and provides significant benefits to the participants while supporting the NRHA.
Stallion’s participating in the Sire & Dam Program are eligible for NRHA Futurity & Derby Sire Awards
Mare owners have the opportunity to purchase breedings that they may not otherwise have access to at reduced rates
Sire & Dam Offspring are eligible for reduced entry fees into the NRHA Futurity & Derby
TO DONATE A BREEDING
Contact the NRHA office for a breeding contract or print a copy from the link below. Complete the contract and send it to the NRHA office. Breeding contracts can either be donated as “open” contracts to be sold to the first person to send payment; the stallion owner can designate the purchaser on the contract or repurchase breeding by sending payment with contract. When the breeding is sold, a copy is distributed to the mare owner as receipt of purchase, and to the stallion owner showing who purchased the breeding. The original is maintained in the Sire and Dam Program files.
Stallion owners receive free promotion through distribution of NRHA material at different horse events, and on the NRHA website. In addition, stallion owners are eligible to receive NRHA Sire & Dam Program awards, provided applicable conditions are met.
Currently: The list of participating stallions is updated daily on the NRHA website. NRHA Sire & Dam Program contracts are sold on a first come, first serve basis. To make a purchase, simply send either a check or wire transfer to the NRHA office noting which stallion you would like to purchase. Please call the office for wire transfer information.Credit cards may be used for 3.5% processing fee.
It is the mare owner’s responsibility to pay any other fees associated with the breeding. The NRHA strongly suggests that mare owners contact participating stallion owners/agents to inquire about such fees prior to purchasing the breeding through the NRHA Sire & Dam Program.
Jump on 2008: You will have the opportunity to purchase 2008 NRHA Sire & Dam Program breedings through an online auction from November 15 - December 1, 2007. Stallions participation in the Top 20 Sires Program will be available in the auction along with any other stallion whose owner chooses to join the auction.
Stallions not enrolled in the auction will be sold on a first come, first serve basis for 60% of their advertised breeding fee. These breedings will be available beginning October 2, 2007 . Stallions not sold during the auction will be placed on the available list following verification of the auction results.
Changes Made In 2007 Relatively unchanged since its inception, the NRHA Sire & Dam Program will enhance the already exceptional program by adding the Top 20 Sires Auction for 2007! The NRHA Sire & Dam Top 20 Sires Program is the answer to many concerns by mare owners who have previously not had the opportunity to purchase a breeding to one of these great stallions.
The Top 20 NRHA Sires as listed in the previous NRHA Year In Review (pending submission of contracts) will be available for auction
Stallions on the Top 20 list not donated for auction (deceased, no longer standing at stud, etc) will result in the next available stallion being included on the list for the Sire & Dam Top 20 Sires Program
Participants in the Top 20 Sires Program will be required to donate one breeding to the auction to maintain Sire & Dam Program eligibility
All other stallions who participate in the Sire & Dam Program will have the option of participating in the auction
Bidding for the auction will begin at 60% of the advertised breeding fee
Breedings not sold during the auction will be sold on a first come, first serve basis for 60% of their advertised breeding fee
The NRHA Sire & Dam Program will continue to offer stallion owners the option of donating their breedings for sale on a first come, first serve basis. Stallions opting out of the auction will be available for purchase at 60% of their advertised breeding fee beginning October 2, 2007.
Why increase the purchase rate from 50% to 60%?
NRHA Sire & Dam Program contracts have been sold for half the advertised breeding fee since 1966. Initially, the Sire & Dam offspring eligibility for reduced entry fees included only the NRHA Futurity. In 1996 the NRHA Derby was added to the benefit package and Sire & Dam offspring received reduced entry fees as four- and five-year-olds. Finally in 2003 the Derby was changed to include six-year- olds, resulting in 4 years of reduced entry fees for Sire & Dam Offspring! The increased purchase rate is simply a reflection of these added benefits.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS HAVE TO SAY
"I've been involved with the Sire & Dam Program since its inception. In the early years, the Program was a real lifesaver for the NRHA. From the beginning until the present, it has been an asset to the industry. Unlike other programs, it has always worked."
-Bob Loomis
"In my opinion the Sire & Dam Program is one of the best offered. It didn't cost me any out of pocket money to participate. It was such a thrill when the NRHA Sire & Dam Program presented me with a check for more than $33,000 for owning the sire of the 2001 NRHA Open Futurity Champion. I felt as though I had just won the Futurity myself . . . I wish more of the breeding programs would reward donating stallion owners."
-Sue Hearst
"The NRHA Sire & Dam Program is the greatest thing going. It's cost effective and benefits everyone involved. From a mare owner's point of view, the money we save for the resulting foal is worth its weight in gold. It's the only deal in town!"
-Clint Haverty
PROGRAM AWARDS
If your donated breeding sells prior to the start of the donation year’s NRHA Futurity, your stallion will be eligible for Sire Awards at that year’s Futurity. Your stallion wins these awards if any of his three-year-olds finish in the top three of the NRHA Open and/or Non Pro Futurity among Sire Award eligible sires. The following three years could earn him NRHA Derby Sire Awards. Stallions having four, five and/or six-year-olds that finish in the top three among Sire Award eligible sires of the Open, Intermediate Open, and/or Non Pro Derby, are eligible for Derby Sire Awards.
