The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) in Lausanne, Switzerland, is the international governing body of equine sports. In 2000, Reining became the first western discipline to be approved by the FEI. Reining became a full medal discipline at the World Equestrian Games in 2002 in Jerez, Spain. 2004 saw the debut of the World Reining Masters Series sponsored by NetJets with the Finals held during the NRHA Futurity and North American Affiliate Championships in Oklahoma City, OK, USA.
The 2006 FEI World Reining Masters Finals will be held at the newly formed Western International Reining, this October in Denver, Colorado. In addition to the Masters, and with more than $250,000 in prize money, the Western International also includes the Mountain Region Affiliate Finals, a Derby, Futurity and full slate of ancillary classes and a ticketed Freestyle Reining. The Western International’s mission of bringing the sport of Reining ever closer to Olympic inclusion will be evident in Denver this fall. Please visit www.westerninternational.us for more info.
