Reiner News Flash

Week of July 16

We hope you’re enjoying the Reiner News Flash and look forward to the weekly updates and periodic Breaking News additions!  Just as the NRHA Reiner is the place to go for “All Things Reining,” the Reiner News Flash has the most up-to-date news on “All Things Reining.” The association, the horses, the people, and much more are covered.  It gives readers a brief look at what’s new.  Watch the NRHA Reiner, www.nrha.com, and the eNRHAnewsletter for more details and complete coverage of these topics.

Organizational Review of NRHA - NRHA President Mike Boyle has put together a Task Force to do an Organizational Review of the NRHA. This Review Panel consists of Sam Houston, Terry Griffin, Steve Harris and Jack Covington. The Panel is mandated to review all areas and departments of the NRHA as it exists today and report their findings to the Executive Board.

“I felt it necessary for us to provide better customer service and to do so a review of the organization was necessary. We examined using outside third-party consultants, however the cost was prohibitive. I thank the Panel for taking on this large task,” said President Boyle.

NRHA Website www.nrha.com has Three New Additions

  • The Source is the new format the NRHA President and Executive Board will use from time to time to answer questions and address issues of importance to all members.  The first edition is on the NRHA website now and addresses several issues that have to do with proposed rule changes.  Be sure and check it out.
  • Look under NRHA on the menu bar and you’ll find NRHA Town Talk, which will list upcoming and scheduled official Town Talks.
  • Big news for NRHA show managers and secretaries.  Show approval forms can now be submitted on the NRHA website.  Please go to NRHA on the menu bar and choose Forms & Documents, then click Online Show Approvals.  Our IT and show departments are excited that NRHA is one of the first equine associations to offer this time-saving feature.  It even lets you know instantly if you have an error!

NRHA European Affiliate Championship – When it was all said and done - the 2007 NRHA European Championship Show was a phenomenal success.  Entries were up – way up!  Records fell as there were 167 entries in the Championship (50 entries more than last year) and 182 entries in the Western Star IV Show, three times more entries than last year’s record-setting show held at the WTC Western Star owned by Helmut and Dennis Schulz.

The RMRHA Summer Slide runs this week (July 17-22) and the Rocky Mountain Reining Horse Association is taking every opportunity to promote Reining throughout the entire show.  Visitors to the RMRHA website, www.rmrha.com, will be able to watch the Summer Slide action live, as it's happening, including reading a Show Blog with results and other happenings. According to Gary Pipkin, when there is down time the live feed will feature Summer Slide sponsor videos and an NRHA promotional video on the sport of Reining; every day, every evening.  Now that's spreading the word about Reining!

A new Rookie Day has been added to the 2007 line up.  It is set for September 15 in Katy, TX, and will include a group for youth rookie eligible riders.  For more information, contact Terri Bishop (512) 296-0951.

Staff Changes – There are changes in the NRHA office.  Tobi Coleman has been promoted from Manager to Director of Membership Services.  Susie Trimmer has moved to membership services as Supervisor – Futurity & Derby entries.  Katie Borum has been hired as Executive Assistant to the Executive Director.

Becky also serves as a board member of the Kentucky Horse Park Commission and Foundation.

NRHA Milestone Down Under – 2007 marks another NRHA milestone when Australia holds the very first NRHA Australia Affiliate Championship in Gatton, Queensland, on August 1-4.  Also scheduled is a Show Management Seminar.
