Reiner News Flash

Week of August 27

Welcome to this edition of the Reiner News Flash.  Send your Breaking News and comments to ctrimmer@nrha.com.  Watch the NRHA Reiner, www.nrha.com, and eNRHAnewsletter for more details and coverage of these and other topics.

The August 25-26 Board of Directors meeting was a combination of business, business and more business, combined with some getting-to-know-you with attending members, some for the first time.  These members attended committee meetings, sat in on the Board of Directors meeting, lunched with board and staff members, had an open forum and exchange of ideas and concerns on Saturday evening with President Boyle and President Elect Kim Sloan, Vice President Rick Weaver, and executive board member Doug Carpenter, they heard the much-anticipated findings of the Organizational Review Task Force first hand, participated in the discussions surrounding 2008 proposed rule changes and voiced their opinions. The board members and staff listened intently and learned much … reiners got to know reiners a little bit better.

Some of what came out of the Board of Directors meeting included:

  • The Board of Directors voted on the proposed 2008 rule changes this past weekend at their meeting at the NRHA Office. Go to the “Member's Only” section to check out the results of the vote!
  • President Boyle appointed an Animal Welfare Task Force, which will conduct open meetings and report their findings and recommendations at the NRHA Futurity.
  • A task force was formed to help in the development of ideas for activities at the 2008 NRHA Convention. Already in the works – three days have been added to the Convention schedule to provide time for a Judges Seminar/School.  Some of what is being considered: an area where vendors can display their products/services, shopping – Tener’s will stay open late one evening exclusively for convention goers to shop and take advantage of special discounts, the RHSF will hold a casino night, training sessions will be held for board, officers and committee members, a Show Management Seminar, a Show Steward Seminar, a Board of Directors meeting and an Affiliate Congress.
  • The production of Wide World of Horses presents NRHA Inside Reining was approved for 2008.
  • 2008 Futurity and Derby conditions were approved.
  • Changes to the NRHA Futurity format were approved.

NRHA Show Managers and Secretaries
Dee Hertig suggested at the August Board meeting that NRHA conduct a survey of show management and show secretaries to determine the most common problems they encounter in planning, producing, and finalizing their shows. So, we’re asking for your help.  Let us know what problems you have so we can draft the survey, get everyone’s input and help solve these issues. Who knows, you might find your question and the answer in the next Show Secretary’s Seminar! Please take the time to send your response to ctrimmer@nrha.com.

Regional Affiliate Finals Begin
The NRHA North American Regional Affiliate Finals have begun.  NRHA would like to congratulation everyone competing in the finals, youth team tournaments, and Pard’s Saddle Series.  Good luck in qualifying for the North American Freestyle and Adequan® North American Affiliate Championships.
