NRHA Derby Show Countdown... Hit the Road to OKC!
It’s time to hit the road to Oklahoma City to attend the NRHA Derby Show slated for May 15–20 at the Oklahoma State Fair Park. This is NRHA’s premier event for four-, five- and six-year-old reining horses and offers almost $200,000 in added money for the Open and Non Pro derbies as well as a full slate of NRHA Ancillary classes. Last year the show paid out almost $550,000 and, thanks to our generous Corporate Partners and class sponsors, awarded a handsome array of special awards to the winners and placers in every class.
There will be many highlights at this year’s event including the Derby Spotlight Sale Demo/Brunch, 8 am, followed by the Derby Spotlight Sale scheduled for Saturday morning, May 20, 10 am. The Sale includes the offspring of the finest bloodlines in the business including NRHA Million Dollar Sires Gallo Del Cielo, the newly recognized Lil Ruf Peppy, Three Million Dollar Sire Topsail Whiz and Four Million Dollar Sire Hollywood Dun It. You’ll see the best of the best parading through the sale ring. You won’t want to miss it.
The week starts with the NRHA Golf Gala at the Coffee Creek Golf Course on May 12. A Youth Fun Day, presented by the National Reining Horse Youth Association (NRHyA), is planned for Thursday, May 18, as are the Celebration of Champions and NRHA Town Meeting. The Taste of Reining, which offers a sampling of treats from the areas finest restaurants, will take place on Friday, May 19, and the “Ultimate Catch Ride,” class - the NRHA Collegiate Reining Championship - will take place on Saturday morning, May 20 at 10:00 am.
There will be “draw parties” for the finalists in the Open and Non Pro derbies and an NRHyA Youth Fundraiser Cook-out will be the place to be on Saturday, May 20, at 11:00 am. Vendors will be on hand throughout the event to offer anything your heart desires and the atmosphere of the entire show is relaxed and enjoyable despite the ever present tension of a big-money, prestigious NRHA reining.
