New NRHA Futurity Plan – Fewer Payments & Benefits for Years
Here are some of the exciting condition changes to the 2008 NRHA Futurity. (The 2009 Derby payment structure or due dates did not change.)
The main points to consider concerning the 2008 NRHA Futurity are:
Positive Changes for the Future of the NRHA Futurity & Derby
With an eye toward the future, the NRHA Board of Directors adopted changes to the NRHA Futurity and Derby conditions. These changes create a permanent, solid foundation for the continuation and growth of the NRHA Futurity and Derby. The association cannot continue to rely on sponsorship money alone to enhance our own events.
The basis of the formula and structure of the entry process came from proven foal nomination programs within the horse industry including such successful programs as the Breeder’s Cup for Thoroughbreds, All American Futurity for racing Quarter Horses, AQHA Incentive Fund and National Reining Breeders Classic. The formula projects income of $1 to $1.2 million dollars to support the NRHA Futurity and Derby.
Among the positives born out of this plan:
There will be NO increase in Futurity nomination/entry fees.
The plan does not rely on soft dollars, those monies that can fluctuate significantly, such as large sponsorships.
There will be lower late nomination fees for 2008.
There will be fewer payments.
A significant amount of money will roll into the NRHA Derby and result in larger payouts and a surge of new vitality for the event.
There will be significantly higher Futurity and Derby purses in the future, enabling larger and deeper payout in the Intermediate and Limited Open divisions.
The NRHA Sire & Dam Program remains unchanged.
Look for 2008 Futurity Conditions on the NRHA website on September 24. Complete conditions will also be included in the November edition of the NRHA Reiner . All past Futurity owners and riders from the last five years will receive all information in the mail as well. Complete conditions will be available at the NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show in OKC, November 22 – December 1, 2007.
