2008 NRHA Derby: New Dates Announced
Get ready for a bigger and better NRHA Derby coming in 2008! The NRHA is revamping its major event for 4, 5, and 6 year old horses held annually at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, OK. Exhibitors and spectators will find new dates, a new focus and a family-friendly event at the 2008 NRHA Derby.
The new format for the NRHA Derby has been in the planning stages for close to a year; first in the Aged Events Committee and then the full Board of Directors. At its recent meeting in late August, the NRHA Board of Directors voted to change the dates of the event. The 2008 NRHA Derby will now be held June 23 – 28. While the Derby will remain at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, OK, exhibitors will notice several other member-friendly changes now showcasing the Non Pro and Youth members and all sorts of family-fun events will be planned.
So mark your show calendars now for the 2008 NRHA Derby – June 23 – 28!
NRHA Million Dollar Owner Lance Griffin Featured on Wide World of Horses presents NRHA Inside Reining October 1
Make a point to watch Monday’s edition of Wide World of Horses presents NRHA Inside Reining on RFD-TV. NRHA Inside Reining host Sam Houston takes us to Lance Griffin’s reining facility in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Griffin is one of only two NRHA million dollar owners. Griffin was also part of the Silver medal winning Team Canada at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.
You’ll see The Inside Hand Training Tip from 2004 North American Affiliate Open Champion and NRHA Professional Cody Sapergia. The Griffin Quarter Horses Lead Trainer will demonstrate the fundamentals of something every reiner must master – lead departure.

2007 NRHA North American Regional Affiliate Finals in Full Swing
The 2007 NRHA North American Regional Affiliate Finals are going strong. The top 4 placings, plus ties, in each division at each Regional Affiliate Finals will advance to the Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show held in conjunction with the NRHA Futurity, November 22-December 1, 2007. Open and Non Pro Riders Compete for New Pard’s Saddle
While you’re at the Regional Affiliate Finals, don’t forget to enter the 2007 NRHA Pard’s Regional Affiliate Saddle Series class. The top ten qualified riders from the Open and Non Pro Saddle Series standings from each affiliate may compete in the clean-slate class. Points have been awarded on a one rider/multiple horse basis. Riders may compete on up to three horses that they’ve ridden to qualify.
The top Open and Non Pro rider entered in the Saddle Series class at each Regional Affiliate Finals will be awarded a beautiful saddle from Pard’s Western Shop, the official and exclusive saddle provider of the NRHA.

World-Class Reining returns to Colorado
Denver and the National Western Complex welcome the return of The International Reining Festival. The proud home of the NRHA Mountain Region Affiliate Finals, Challenger’s Cup Invitational Freestyle Reining, Mile High Derby and the Stallion Select Futurity, The International runs October 17-21.

Be Sure to Attend NRHA Fall Membership Meeting
Join us for the Fall Membership Meeting during the All-American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday, October 11, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.
NRHA members will be voting for candidates running for NRHA Vice President and NRHA Board of Directors. The ballots and bios for the candidates are available on the “Member’s Only” section of the website. You can also view the proposed bylaw changes. The deadline to vote by absentee ballot has passed, so if you still plan to vote, we’ll see you in Columbus.

2007 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show
The NRHA is busy planning all sorts of entertaining events for the biggest reining event of the year! The 2007 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show is set for November 22-December 1 at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, OK.
As well as the world’s best reining, other Futurity highlights include Americana Day, a Thanksgiving Dinner benefiting the Reining Horse Sports Foundation, the 4R Performance Horses 8 Second Celebrity Slide – a special Reining event benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma, the $100,000 Added FEI World Reining Masters Finals, an Invitational Freestyle competition, the North American Freestyle Championship presented by Century Investment Group, the $10,000 added Open class presented by Rhodes River Ranch, a special clinic with Stacy Westfall presented by Horse & Rider magazine, the Champagne Brunch with Legends, and three exceptional horse sales featuring futurity prospects, yearlings and other prospects and producers including the NRHA/Markel Insurance Breeders Select Showcase, NRHA/Markel Insurance Marketplace, and NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect sales.

International Riders Ready to Compete for “World’s Best” Title
Seven countries have expressed interest in sending their top riders to compete in the 2007 FEI World Reining Masters competition held Thursday, November 29th, during the NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show.
The $100,000 FEI World Reining Masters is an annual competition to find the most elite individual reiners in the world. The top rider, according to a point system, in each National Federation will qualify to compete in the World Reining Masters. The USA, Canada, Italy, Germany and Switzerland will be allowed to send their top two riders to the Masters. Those five countries were finalists at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany. As well as competing for the $100,000 purse, the riders will also be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in two divisions: Open and Restricted.
Countries and riders participating, at this time, include: Gilson Vendrame from Brazil; Dany Tremblay and Greg Lauder from Canada; representing Israel will be Ashir Kol; Toru Tamaoki (McCoy) will ride for Japan; Gretel Valdes will represent Mexico; Hubertus Heule will ride for the Netherlands and the USA will have two riders who have yet to be named. Professional Bull Riders turned Reiners?
The Reining Horse Sports Foundation is planning one heck of a show during Thanksgiving weekend at the Futurity. It’s the 4R Performance Horses 8 Second Celebrity Slide! Professional Bull Riders are trading in their buckin’ bulls for smooth slidin’ reiners! Professional Bull Rider stars J.W. Hart, Adriano Moraes, Justin McBride, Cord McCoy, Ross Coleman, Matt Bohon and Rob Smets will hop on top of a reiner for the ride of their life, with a few training tips from several of the NRHA Million Dollar Riders and their young friends from Make-A-Wish. Proceeds from the 4R Performance Horses 8 Second Celebrity Slide will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma. Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 24th at 5:00 pm.
Enjoy Thanksgiving Day Feast with your NRHA Family
Reiners, their families and friends don’t have to miss a traditional Thanksgiving just because they’re in Oklahoma City for the NRHA Futurity & Adequan North American Affiliate Championship Show. The 1st Annual Thanksgiving Day Feast, hosted by the Reining Horse Sports Foundation (RHSF), will take place Nov. 22 in the new Sale Arena in Barn 3. The meal will feature roasted turkey, cornbread dressing and all the trimmings, plus a variety of desserts for $25/adult and $10/children 10 and under. Children under 2 are free. Tickets at the door are $40 for adults and $15 for children. Proceeds benefit the RHSF and reservations are requested. Be sure to buy your tickets to win the 2007 Raffle horse. The winner will be drawn during the NRHA Futurity Finals. Tim and Colleen McQuay, of Tioga, Texas, have generously donated a yearling colt, Cashin’ Out, to be raffled off during the Futurity. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from NRHyA members at all of the Regional Affiliate Finals. The drawing will be held Saturday, December 1 and you don’t have to be present to win. All proceeds will benefit the NRHyA.

The NRHyA would like to thank Carol Rose, of Gainesville, Texas, for her donation of a yearling filly to be sold at the NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect Sale. Lenas Summer Fun is By Shiners Lena Doc and out of Zans Summer Sun. All proceeds from the sale of this horse will also benefit the NRHyA.

The NRHA Sire & Dam Program Online Stallion Auction was such a success in its first year, let the bidding begin again! Mare owners will have the opportunity to purchase 2008 NRHA Sire & Dam Program breedings through the online auction. The bidding begins November 15th and ends December 1st. Stallions participating in the Top 20 Sires Program will be available in the auction along with any other stallion whose owner chooses to join the auction.
