NRHA Takes You Inside the Sport of Reining on TV
NRHA members are the first to know about exciting news about the action packed sport of Reining and the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA). The Wide World of Horses presents NRHA Inside Reining will be hosted by longtime NRHA member, Sam Houston. The brand new show will feature training tips from some of the top reiners around the world. During the twice monthly broadcast, Houston will take viewers on a tour through several of the most popular Reining ranches across the nation. Inside Reining will offer a unique look inside the world of Reining, the men and women involved in the sport, and the lifestyles they lead. Everything from the tack you need to choosing the right horse to training your ride to pull off those amazing spins and sliding stops, you’ll find it all on The Wide World of Horses presents NRHA Inside Reining. It all begins January 8, 2007. Keep watching the eNRHAnewsletter for more details.

Reining Action Slides into Spain
When was the last time you saw world class Reining competition in a bullfighting ring? Many of the world’s top reiners are just now home from the Mallorca Western Festival. The recent Reining competition featured record prize money totaling $200,000. We’re told Palma de Mallorca’s Plaza de Toros was rockin’ with everything from the lightning fast spins and sliding stops to a western style concert. Many families who live in Mallorca say they really enjoyed the excitement of the wild west. It was definitely a big change from the bullfighting they’re used to seeing.
When it was all said and done – the winner of the “Mallorca Reining Trophy” was Martin Larcombe from Australia riding Red Chic Peppy. USA’s Shawn Flarida came in second riding Just Gotta Shine and USA’s Kelly Zweifel who trains in Italy rode her way into third place on Mr Snapple.
Martin Larcombe also came away as Champion of the “North America against the Rest of the World” competition. Germany’s Grischa Ludwig, riding Coeur D Wright Stuff, tied with Shawn Flarida, riding Just Gotta Shine, to share second place winnings.

It’s the proud home of the FEI World Reining Masters Finals and NRHA Mountain US Regional Affiliate Finals. The Western International runs October 17th – October 22nd at the National Western Complex. National Reining Horse Youth Association (NRHyA) members are spending the North American Regional Affiliate Finals campaigning. The Youth members elect two delegates at each Regional Affiliate Finals and then those delegates go on to run in the NRHyA Officer Elections at the 2006 NRHA Futurity. It’s a safe bet you’ll hear more from these Youth members just elected as NRHyA delegates. New delegates from the Central Region are Meghan Burns and Cash Bridges. Breaking News Released From Texas Animal Health Commission
Hauling Livestock from Wyoming to Texas?
Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) Regulations Apply!
Texas hunters or ranchers hauling horses or other livestock from Wyoming this fall should be aware of regulations affecting the animals’ entry or re-entry into Texas, says Dr. Bob Hillman, head of the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC), the state’s livestock and poultry health regulatory agency. Vesicular stomatitis (VS), a viral disease that can affect horses, cattle, swine, deer, sheep or goats, has been confirmed in 12 horses and 10 cattle on a total of nine premises in Natrona and Converse counties in southeast Wyoming. As of late September, these are the only cases confirmed in the U.S. in 2006.
To help prevent the spread of VS, Texas livestock health regulations prohibit the entry of horses, cattle, swine, (live) deer, sheep or goats from VS-quarantined premises or areas. Animals may enter Texas from non-quarantined areas of an affected state, provided an accredited veterinarian in that state examines the animals and determines that they are not exhibiting evidence of vesicular stomatitis and writes the following statement on a current or new certificate of veterinary inspection: “the animals represented on this health certificate have not originated from a premise or area under quarantine for vesicular stomatitis."
Dr. Hillman said more information about VS is available on the TAHC web site at: tahc.state.tx.us. The TAHC headquarters may be reached at 1-800-550-8242.
