NRHA President’s Letter
Congratulations to all Winners at 2006 NRHA Futurity & Adequan North American Affiliate Championship Show
We hope NRHA members are resting a bit following the 2006 NRHA Futurity & Adequan North American Championship Show. We want to extend our congratulations to all the winners of the biggest event for Reining each year. The top NRHA Open Futurity winners include:

Randy Paul, Scottsdale, AZ, beat a field of spectacular three-year-olds to bring Taris Designer Genes (Mr Boomerjac x Taris Little Vintage), owned by Rancho Oso Rio, to the winner’s circle of the 2006 NRHA Futurity $100,000 added Open Division and a guaranteed paycheck of $125,000! Taris Designer Genes is the first mare to win the Futurity’s Open Division since 1990.

In a dramatic runoff for first place in the $50,000 added Elite Trailer Intermediate Open Division, Shawna Sapergia bested Matt Flarida by a half point. Shawna, from Cochrane, AB, Canada, rode This Chics On Top, a three-year-old daughter of Smart Chic Olena and out of This Chex On Top, owned by Outrider Ranch Ltd. Shawna earned $23,249.56 for the win.

Million $ McCutcheon

Congratulations to NRHA Professional Tom McCutcheon! His winnings at the NRHA Futurity helped him reach a major milestone in his career. McCutcheon is now part of an elite distinction only a few reiners reach in their lifetime. McCutcheon just topped one million dollars in NRHA Lifetime Earnings. He becomes the latest to join the NRHA Million Dollar Rider club with $1,004,881.75 in lifetime earnings. And the awards continue to pile up for McCutcheon. He has just been chosen to serve on an Athlete’s Advisory committee for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010. The committee is comprised of nine equestrian athletes who will work to provide ideas that will help the planning, organization and operation of the equestrian world’s largest, multi-discipline competition.

Record Breaking Futurity Sales
The NRHA is pleased to announce another record breaking year during the NRHA Marketplace Sale, NRHA Breeders Showcase Select Sale and NRHA Futurity Prospect Sale, all held during the Futurity. The NRHA reached another all-time high record with the sale of Hesa Smokin Shiner, consigned by Ron Thompson. Gustgaynia Revenberg bought the futurity prospect for $195,000.00! Right behind that came Skeets Little Annie, consigned by Vaughn Zimmerman, selling for $185,000.00 to Fredrick Christen and then Mary Ann Van Degna purchased Ruf N Dun It for $162,000.00, consigned by Green Valley Ranch. We’ll be watching for these up and coming futurity prospects next year.

Sire & Dam Online Auction a Success
The debut of the NRHA Sire & Dam Program’s online auction went even better than anyone expected! The online auction for 2007 breedings began November 15th and ran through December 2nd. The “eBay-style” bidding war took off during the Futurity.

The online auction was created to give the NRHA membership an opportunity to buy a Sire & Dam breeding that in the past may have been pre-sold before it was donated. Also incorporated into the auction concept was the Top 20 Sires Program. The Top 20 Sires Program is the answer to many concerns by mare owners who had previously not had the opportunity to purchase a breeding to one of the Top 20 stallions.

Many felt the online auction would be a much better way to make these breedings available to everyone and it would also increase the revenue to the Sire & Dam Program, which would provide more benefits to the NRHA Membership. The new NRHA Sire & Dam Program online auction is being hailed a success bringing in close to $180,000.00.

The sire receiving the most bids was One Time Pepto (Peptoboonsmal x One Time Soon) owned by Jeffrey Matthews of Warsaw, NC. With 152 bids, One Time Pepto’s breeding went for more than double his regular stud fee of $5,000. With a starting bid of 60% of One Time Pepto’s regular breeding fee, the bids closed at $10,030.00.

Sell, Sell, Sell for the NRHyA
Great job to the NRHyA! The Youth members held several fundraisers during the Futurity bringing in more than $60,000 - all benefiting the NRHyA. Youth members sold $10.00 raffle tickets to win a 2 year old Quarter Horse gelding donated by Walter Fuchs and Frank Costantini and trained by Nick Baar. After one last minute push at the Futurity, the Youth members ended up raising $20,000. Then during the Futurity the NRHyA held a silent auction with lots of donated items. When the money from the silent auction was all counted, the youth brought in another $10,000. Then another major money maker for the Youth came during the NRHA Futurity Prospect Sale. This year 7 stallion owners donated breedings raising another $30,700 for the Youth! Congratulations to them all.

Also during the Futurity, the NRHyA elected new officers for the coming year. President, Brandon Boyle, Vice President, Ian Barnard, Secretary, Kailey King, Treasurer, Cash Bridges, and Sentinel, Meaghan Burns.
