How an Oklahoma Reining Event Draws Quite a Crowd on the Next
Wide World of Horses presents NRHA Inside Reining August 20

Be sure to watch the next episode of Wide World of Horses presents NRHA Inside Reining sponsored by Adequan®. This Monday, August 20, on RFD-TV, NRHA Inside Reining host Sam Houston shows us a new kind of Reining event featured at the Ariat Tulsa Reining Classic, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, August 30-September 2. NRHA Non Professional Tami Wagman, director of the event, explains how this special show is designed for people who know little or nothing about the sport.

Also on Monday, David Solum of Mid America Equine Sales gives us some great tips on shopping for horses at auction. And, we take a look back at Joe Cody – an American Quarter Horse considered by many to be one of the foundation sires of the sport of Reining.

Dr. Joe Carter explains what you can do to help keep your horse’s joints sound in “Your Horse’s Health Inside & Out sponsored by Adequan®.”  And for those of you who like to stay on top of all the latest equipment, Mark Butzow of Pard’s Western Shop shows us all the new bridles, reins and headstalls.

A Congressional Win for the Horse Industry
Two weeks ago we sent NRHA members an alert about a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that could adversely affect the livelihoods of many of our members.  It involved a provision of the U.S. Department of Agriculture funding bill.  The broadly worded provisions would have affected the transport, import and export of horses.  The good news is the American Horse Council successfully lobbied against Section 738 of the bill and therefore it was stripped from USDA bill.  The final version of the bill passed the House of Representatives on August 2 and is now headed to the Senate.  Click here if you’d like to read more about the hotly debated congressional action.

Results from First NRHA Australian Affiliate Championship
The results are in from the first-ever NRHA Australian Affiliate Championship.  Reining Australia hosted the continental championship August 1-4 at the Gatton Indoor Arena in Gatton, Queensland. NRHA Member Seriously Injured
NRHA member Mikel Wasser of Austria was involved in a serious car accident soon after he earned the 2000 Americana European Senior Reining championship.  When Mikel emerged from the resulting coma, he was diagnosed with severe brain damage.  To aid in his recovery Mikel is undergoing a series of sessions in an oxygen chamber - Hyperbolic Oxygen Therapy, an international scientifically recognized medical treatment for a large number of disorders linked to oxygen deficiency.  These treatments are expensive, so the Mikel Wasser Foundation has been set up to help Mikel and future support for other young people who need this kind of therapy.  The foundation is registered (27289681) with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. Your donation can be made out to the Postbank, account # 9276836, payable to Stichting Mikel Wasser in Honselersdijk, IBAN NL 96 PSTB 0009 2768 36, BIC PSTBNL21. www.stichtingmikewasser.com.
