NRHA Vies to Host 2007 FEI World Reining Masters
The NRHA has officially put in its bid to host the 2007 FEI World Reining Masters during its 2007 NRHA Futurity and Adequan North American Affiliate Championship Show held November 22 – December 1, 2007.

The NRHA and Oklahoma City hosted the inaugural FEI World Reining Masters in 2004. Elite reiners from 16 different countries competed for a purse of $100,000 and Gold medals in the Open and Restricted divisions.

The $100,000 FEI World Reining Masters is an annual competition to find the best individual Reiner in the world. Competitors must qualify for the final event which normally alternates between the USA and Europe. This year’s World Reining Masters was scheduled to be held in Europe, but since there were no applications, the NRHA asked to host the Masters in the USA to keep the momentum of Reining going strong. The FEI is expected to make a final decision on the location of the 2007 Masters sometime in May.

Update on Qualifiers for North American Young Riders’ Championships
Important news for young reiners in the western part of the United States. The final qualifying competition for the USEF 2007 North American Young Riders’ Championships (NAYRC) has been selected.

This is the first time Reining has been invited to the premiere equestrian competition for young riders in North America. Riders between the ages of 16-21 must compete in a series of qualifying competitions. The USEF just announced the location of the Western Qualifier. It will be held during the Ben Balow Mother’s Day Slide in Scottsdale, AZ, on May 11-13, 2007. The Eastern region qualifier will be held at the Central Ohio Reining Horse Association Show in Sunbury, OH, on May 27, 2007. The qualifiers for the Mountain and Central regions have already been held.

From those qualifiers, teams of four riders will be selected in each region by the USEF. Those four teams will then compete at the NAYRC July 31 – August 5, 2007, at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, VA.

The selection procedures for the NAYRC in the Reining competition can be found here. If you have any questions, you’re encouraged to contact Courtney Barnett, USEF Director of Reining Programs at (859) 225-6919 or cbarnett@usef.org.
