WEG 2006 - Reining on the Road to Aachen

The British Team


Great Britain announced its team now. It consists of Doug Allen, Francesca Sternberg, Rosanne Sternberg and Mark How.

Doug Allen
Doug is a professional horse trainer and AQHA/NRHA judge who is resident trainer at Sterling Quarter Horses in England. He is riding Jacs Little Sunrise a 6-year-old palomino stallion by Sunrise Enterprise and owned by Francesca Sternberg. This horse is a multiple Aged-Event Finalist.

Francesca Sternberg
Francesca has been a leading European Non-Pro rider for several years and was Reserve Champion in the Non-Pro at this year’s World Reining Trophy in Mooslargue. She will be riding Yelena My Way, an 8-year-old sorrel stallion by Lena My Way, owned by Francesca Sternberg. This horse has been a leading Non-Pro horse ranking in the NRHA Top 10 Non-Pro listings and winner of several Lawson Trophies over the past 3 seasons with Francesca.

Rosanne Sternberg
Rosanne has been on the Top Ten NRHA Non-Pro list several times and was an Individual Silver Medalist at the 2003 FEI European Championships. She also runs an extensive breeding operation in Texas and is notable as the breeder and owner of Smart Spook, NRHA's highest money earner and Open Futurity and Derby winner, as well as several AQHA World Champions. She will be riding Dun Roostin, a 6-year-old dun stallion by Gallo Del Cielo (Rooster), owned by Rosanne Sternberg. This horse was 2005 ABRA World Champion Reining Horse as well as a multiple Open NRHA Aged Event finalist. He was NRBC Non-Pro and Intermediate Non-Pro finalist this year with Rosanne.

Mark How
Mark is a professional horse trainer and NRHA Judge working for his own facility where he trains Open and Non-Pro horses. He will be riding Whiz Worth a 6-year-old sorrel stallion by Topsail Whiz, owned by John Dunford. This horse was a finalist at the NRHA Breeders Derby this year, where he was shown by Rudi Kronsteiner and was purchased by John Dunford immediately after the show. Mark showed him successfully in the British CRI at Bodiam last month placing third.

The World Equestrian Games in Reining are scheduled for September 1 and 3, team competition starting on Friday (September 1) at 10 a.m. Individual competitions will follow on Sunday starting at 11.15 a.m.

After FEI’s nomination deadline this week, it updated its listing of the nations competing. Now, altogether 98 competitors are nominated at the moment. The following nations nominated teams: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.S.A. Hungary, Mexico, Norway, Poland and South Africa announced individual competitors.
