The Czech Team
The Czech Republic nominated the following riders and horses for the World Equestrian Games 2006.
LUKAS JIRAK
Lukas Jirak has become a specialist of FEI events. Two years ago, at the World Reining Masters Finals in Oklahoma City, he finished on a respectable seventh place in Open division riding SR Sweet N Low and was fourth in the Restricted division. He is one of the most talented young riders in Czech Republic. Lukas got involved with horses in 2002, after a motor bike accident. He started his reining career in 2003, winning the year-end CZRHA champion title in Youth reining (riding Little Lady Del Maso) and tying for third place during the CZRHA Championship. In 2004 Lukas won the Championship title in Amateur reining during the Western Riding Club of Czech Rep. Championship Show. He also placed fifth in Senior reining. Last year he was representing his country at the FEI European Reining Championship in Manerbio, where he earned a 14th place. He also returned to Manerbio for the second World Reining Masters Finals, after winning the CRI in Nova Amerika. In 2006 Lukas was sixth in NRHA Non Pro Bronze Trophy in Leipizig and won three CRIs: in Nova Amerika, Stenovicky Borek (both in Czech Rep.) and Wiener Neustadt (Austria). Among his favourite riders he lists Grischa Ludwig and Rudi Kronsteiner.
SR Sweet N Low is an eight-year-old palomino mare by Yo Sugar Par and out of Par Tozan. She was trained by Cody Sapergia. Lukas Jirak guided her to the 7th and 4th place in the World Reining Masters Finals in Oklahoma City.
KLARA SALKOVA
Klara is one of the most experienced reining trainers in the Czech Republic and is also know in Central Europe as well. She started riding horses at the age of 12. She earned her first two titles in show jumping, becoming both Czechoslovakian and Czech Republic Champion. In the late 90s Klara Salkova started competing in reining events. She was multiple Czech reining champion with horses like Smart Chiconita, JJS Spit Shine or Brooks Legacy. In 1999 and 2000, she was Slovakian reining Champion astride JJS Spit Shine. With her bay stallion Smart Chiconita she won seven titles (both Czech FN and Western Riding Club of Czech Rep.) in four years, becoming Czech Champion in 2000, 2004 and 2005. Last year, Klara earned two Champion titles in Senior reining, one in Junior reining (with Brooks Legacy) and earned the Futurity Champion title (with Doc Chexy Ridge).
Klara Salkova is member of the Czech reining team since its creation. She competed in the CRIOs in Kreuth in 2001 and in Manerbio in 2005 and also in the first ever FEI European Reining Championship in 2003. Among her favourite trainers she lists Marcy Ver Meer, Mike Kevil, Dell Hendricks and Vern Sapergia. At the beginning of this year she moved to her own facility in Kozlovice. Her biggest supporter is her daughter Brenda.
Smart Chiconita is a 9-year-old bay stallion by Smart Chic Olena out of One More Memory. He won almost all the important reining shows in the Czech Rep. For four consecutive years he was awarded the Horse of the Year title in Junior and Senior reining. He is a seven time Czech reining Champion. In 2002 and 2004 he was qualified for the AQHA World Show.
IRENA MACHALIKOVA
Irena is one of the most experienced Czech riders. She competed in many international shows in Austria and Germany. She is the head trainer at the El Paso Ranch near Prague. Among Machalikova’s accomplishments there are four Czech reining Champion titles in Junior and Senior reining (in 1998, 1999 and 2002) and multiple Reserve Champion titles. She is a multiple European Quarter Horse Championship finalist and member of the Czech reining team since its creation. In 2005 she earned a first place at the AQHA Show in Nova Amerika, was the NRHA Intermediate Open Champion in Celadna and won the Czech Reserve Champion title in Senior reining with April Doc Olena.
April Doc Olena is a 7-years-old sorrel stallion by Top Olena Dream (by Smart Chic Olena) and out of Tea Quackers. He is the first ever Czech-bred horse to be shown in the NRHA Breeders Futurity in Kreuth (Germany).
LUKAS BRUCEK
Lukas Brucek is another young rider from Czech Republic. In 2004 he earned the Czech Futurity Champion title astride Pedro, a half-Paint Horse by Mr Expresso (one of the best pleasure sires in the Czech Republic). Last year this duo became Junior reining Champion at the Czech FN reining championship. In June 2006 Lukas guided Percy Hollywood to a third place at the CRI in Wiener Neustadt (Austria) and earned his qualification for WEG in Jerez in Stenovicky Borek.
Percy Hollywood is a 6-year-old stallion by Jac O Rima and out of IR Berta. He was trained by Karel Kubata. In 2004 they earned the Junior reining Champion title in Nova Amerika.
HYNEK MACHALIK
Hynek Machalik is a very experienced Czech trainer and President of the Czech Reining Horse Association. After a two years break, he returned to the show pen at the end of 2005. He was a four time Czech reining Champion with Invest In A Power, Poco Badgerita and Pearl Harlan Cody. In 2001 he was member of the Czech reining team for the CRIO in Kreuth.
Jacs Red Rock is a 7-year-old dun gelding by Jacs Cro Bar and out of Docs Mary Rock. He was Czech Futurity Champion in 2002 and won a bronze medal in Junior reining the same year with Hynek Machalik in the saddle.
BARBORA KONOPASKOVA
Barbora Konopaskova is a young rider with a lot of experience. She is known for showing Appaloosa horses. In 2002 with JKS Miss Elegance she was European Champion in Hunter Under Saddle Youth, Reserve Champion and Bronze medalist in Showmanship At Halter Youth, Reserve Champion in Western Equitation Youth and Western Pleasure Youth and Bronze medalist in Trail Youth at the Appaloosa European Championship. Two years ago she brought home five medals from the Appaloosa European Championship in Germany. She won the titles in Western Pleasure and Horsemanship Youth. She was also Reserve Champion in Trail and Hunter Under Saddle and finished third in Showmanship at Halter. Last year she was member of the Czech Youth team for the AQHA Youth Cup in Mooslargue (France). During this year’s CRIs she showed Littles First, a 9-year-old red roan stallion by Jac Von Wolverton. He won two Czech Rep. Champion titles (in 2001 and 2003, in Junior and Senior Reining) with Ivan Cernoch in the saddle.
The World Equestrian Games in Reining are scheduled for September 1 and 3, team competition starting on Friday (September 1) at 10 a.m. Individual competitions will follow on Sunday starting at 11.15 a.m.
After FEI’s nomination deadline this week, it updated its listing of the nations competing. Now, altogether 98 competitors are nominated at the moment. The following nations nominated teams: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.S.A. Hungary, Mexico, Norway, Poland and South Africa announced individual competitors.
